Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Friese, best known as the creators of the first German Netflix series Dark, take us back to a world full of mysteries, sinister figures and confusion.
What is this about?
Outside in 1899. Passengers on the European emigrant ship Kerberos, bound for New York, find on their way a ship that went missing four months ago: the Prometheus. However, the entire team appears to be dead except for a little boy. The captain of the Kerberos Eik (Andreas Pitschmann) still wants to get the ship home safely and decides to turn back. The ship’s passengers are not happy about this at all. At the same time, inexplicable things are happening on Kerberos, and Eyck and many other passengers are faced with their past once again.
How it was?
Those who Dark already looked probably will be different 1899 fit as those who have never delved into the world of Jonah and Martha. In the first series of the two creators, it was important to never look away, to concentrate on every little thing and to have a ready overview of all the characters.
Here, in 1899 however, this is different. The characters are not as intricate as in Dark, and it seems that not every scene is important in solving the mysteries. However, the series is designed for three seasons, so there is not much to talk about open questions and clarifying secrets. Those who are disappointed or confused at the end will just have to wait for the second season. Already in the first season Dark not all were answered.
who’s on 1899 allows but must not Dark– Expect a copy, even if you might think so due to the similar production and plot. The fantastic soundtrack, great acting, maximum confusion of the audience and gloomy atmosphere are very reminiscent of the first German Netflix series, but also contribute to the fact that eight hours fly by incredibly quickly.
