Two years ago it was said that Disney was working on a new movie of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga – without Johnny Depp, but with Margot Robbie. But the project does not come off now.
Margot Robbie is currently on a major press tour. Babylon to promote Oscar winner Damien Chazelle’s new film (la la country). As is usually the case with interviews, questions are asked not only about the film for which the interview was actually organized, but also about other projects. Here’s what people at Vanity Fair asked about what was announced two years ago. Pirates of the Caribbean– Spin-off starring Robbie. The answer of the actress was quite unambiguous.
“We had an idea and we developed it some time ago, many years ago, to make a film with women. Not entirely female, just a different story that we thought was really cool,” Robbie said of Pirates. “But I think they don’t want to do that.”
The “they” in the last sentence means “Disney”. The Mouse Company owns the rights to the series Pirates, which is known to have originated as an attraction at a Disney amusement park. This leaves the question marks behind the pirate saga. How is this supposed to go on? Due to Johnny Depp’s divorce proceedings, it’s unlikely that Disney will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is said to be working on a film that neither Robbie nor Depp should be in. However, nothing more is known.
Babylon will be released in theaters in German-speaking Switzerland on January 19, 2023.
