The taxi driver that carried Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during the paparazzi chase on Wednesday in New York offered a version different from the one reported by the couple’s rep, calling it a “nearly disastrous chase”.
Sukcharn Singh transported the couple for about ten minutes in an attempt to confuse photographers and confirms that the Dukes of Sussex were being pursued, but dismisses the idea that the chase was “almost disastrous”.
“I was on 67th Street when the guard [do casal] came up to me. When I realized this, Prince Harry and his wife were getting into my car,” Singh said. BBC newsthe driver said he didn’t know where the couple were heading as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex received a phone call from security and told them to go back to the police station, where they were picked up by Singh.
“They seem to be nervous,” the taxi driver said, adding that he thought the photographers had been following the couple throughout the day.
According to BBC news, a spokesman for Harry and Meghan said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex survived a “nearly disastrous car chase” but the taxi driver dismissed the claim, saying the couple exaggerated the description of the events. Singh added that he never felt the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were in danger while they were in his taxi and that “New York is the safest place.”
Sukhcharn Singh also revealed that he received $50 (about €46) for the ten-minute ride.
