Most Portuguese have never heard of Paulo Raimundo, the leader of the PKP.

Paulo Raimundo took over the leadership of the PKP on 13 November, replacing Jeronimo de Sousa, but the name was unknown to the vast majority of Portuguese before he became the new communist leader.

According to the latest Intercampus barometer for Correio da Manhã, CMTV and Business 83.6% of the respondents suggest that they did not know or have not heard of Paulo Raimundo before being elected to the position of PKP general secretary. Only 12.7%, 77 people, say they already knew or heard about the name Paulo Raimundo.

The barometer also decided to get the opinion of these 77 people about Raimundo. Result: 41.6% are positive about the new leader, 24.7% don’t know or don’t want to answer, 23.4% are negative and 9.1% are very positive. Already 1.3% are extremely negative about Paulo Raimundo.

Paulo Raimundo was chosen earlier this month by the Central Committee of the Communist Party as the new leader after Jeronimo de Souza “thought about the state of his health and the requirements corresponding to the duties” he had taken on and decided to leave the communist leadership. he held the position for 18 years.

In view of this, the Intercampus poll asked the Portuguese to evaluate not only the new General Secretary of the PKP, but also the previous one, Jeronimo de Souza. When asked if Jeronimo’s performance as leader of the PCP over the years was positive or negative, 46.4% responded positively, while 38.5% did not. It can be said that the respondents are divided regarding the leadership of Jeronimo de Souza, with little difference between values. It should also be noted that Jeronimo de Sousa has always had low popularity ratings in recent barometers.
