Twenty theatrical, dance and new circus performances from the most outstanding national and international artists and companies, which take place on nine stages over 15 days, make up this year’s program for the 40th Almada Festival, which will take place from 4 to 6 July. The program also includes exhibitions, training courses, colloquia and free concerts. This year the budget of the festival is 606 thousand euros.
The 2023 edition pays homage to João Mota, the founder of Comuna, who has worked in theater for 65 years and has been involved in teaching theater for 35 years, showing his penultimate production of Não Andes Nua pela Casa by Georges Feydeau. “Wake up, come with us, understand what we are doing,” said the laureate. Also worth mentioning is Peter Stein, who presents what could be his last creation, “O Aniversário”, or for the Schaubühne company from Berlin, this time with “Everywoman”. Also noteworthy is Doug Wright’s I’m My Own Woman directed by Carlos Aviles. Creators with roots outside of Europe, such as the Lebanese director and actress Hanane Haj Ali or the Algerian-born actor Abdelwaheb Sefsaf, also deserve special attention.
Remember that the shows take place in nine different halls, namely the Municipal Theatre, Joaquim Benita, the Escola D. António da Costa, the Fórum Romeu Correia, the Incrível Almadense, the Academia Almadense and the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon.
