According to CIVISA, the earthquake was recorded at 18:14 local time (19:14 in Lisbon) and had an epicenter about seven kilometers northeast (NE) of Rosais, on the island of São Jorge.
“According to the currently available information, an earthquake with a maximum intensity of IV (on the modified Mercalli scale) was felt in the parishes of Rosais and Velas (Municipality of Velas),” the report says.
CIVISA indicated that the event is part of “an ongoing seismic volcanic crisis on São Jorge Island since March 2022.”
Between 00:00 and 22:00 on Tuesday, approximately 22 events were recorded, one of which was felt.
