Zelensky criticizes NATO for continuing to look to the Kremlin when making decisions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday criticized NATO member states for continuing to look to the Kremlin before making decisions and urged them to speed up the process of Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic alliance.

“NATO [Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte] will ensure the security of Ukraine, and our defense forces will ensure the security and safety of other NATO members. For this to become a reality, only one thing is needed: for all our partners in the Alliance to stop relying on the Kremlin when making important decisions,” he stressed.

“Even Russia’s own internal forces have stopped looking at the fragile master of the Kremlin,” Zelensky said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose “madness,” Zelensky said, drove him to take refuge in a remote “bunker.”

In view of Putin’s “weakness”, “it is absurd to look back at such an incompetent leader of a dysfunctional state,” Zelensky stressed during a speech in parliament on the occasion of Ukraine’s Constitution Day.

A few weeks before the NATO summit in Lithuania, on July 11 and 12, Zelensky stressed the need for Ukraine to join the Alliance as a “powerful signal to the world”, since it is an organization that “protects and will protect” and whom it has “the moral superiority of the winners.”

“No one doubts that Ukraine is capable of defending itself and its allies. The strength of our security is, among other things, the strength of the security of our neighbors,” the President of Ukraine said, stressing that all countries of Eastern Europe want allies, such as the United States, Germany and Great Britain, to deploy troops near the borders of Russia.

Zelensky also explained his peace plan to end the war, which includes the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory and the prosecution of all those responsible for the invasion.

“Ukraine will never accept any option to freeze the conflict,” he said, insisting that the world “should be fair” and that a pause in the conflict would only prolong it before it flared up again.

The President of Ukraine has also proposed a formula for peace, which he defends as an alternative to future international conflicts, and considers it clear that Ukraine has strengthened all the alliances in which it participated.

“We have given strength to the European Union like never before,” he said.
