The Rock in Rio Febras festival in Briteiros San Salvador, municipality of Guimarães, expects about four thousand festival-goers this Saturday. The event, prepared by 80 volunteers, “breathes with rock, solidarity and joy.”
The organization of a small music festival that went national after Rock in Rio Lisboa notified Rock in Rio Febras of the name change, citing brand abuse and unfair competition, says it’s ready to host thousands of attendees.
Due to the huge demand generated by the dispute with Rock in Rio Lisboa, the organization managed to double the size of the space, but even so, it was necessary to limit free admission to about four thousand people for security reasons.
At the first stage, about 3,500 free tickets were available online, and then another 500 tickets. In both cases, the free tickets sold out within hours.
Doors open at 3:00 pm and concerts start at 4:00 pm, during which time local bands such as Smartini, Crocky Girls, Ledher Blue, Juanito Caminante, Gaspea, Gordilho, Segundo Minuto, Berto, Pedro Conde and Quarta às Nove perform.
Festival goers must exchange a free entry pass for a wristband on site between 15:00 and 22:00.
At the moment, the event is called “Rock Festival that takes place by the river Febras”, but the final name has not yet been confirmed.
According to the organization, the festival will end “when the GNR arrives.”
“On rockriofebras.pt, you can find a map with the location of several available car parks, as well as other details of the fence, namely the nearest beer fountain. There will be homemade food prepared by us, including vegan options (green broth and vegetable bifana),” the organization said in a statement sent to Lusa on Friday.
In the first edition of Rock in Rio Febras, held in 2022, about 1,500 people passed through the place in a day.
The festival, which takes place next to the river Febras, retains its social and community character, with proceeds returned to the day center at Casa do Povo de Briteiros.
Speaking to Luza, Vasco Márquez, president of Casa do Povo de Briteiros, the private social solidarity institution (IPSS) that organizes the event, realized that the festival had “acquired a scale” that “exceeded everything” that was expected.
In an Instagram post, those in charge of Rock in Rio Lisboa wished “all the best to friends at the Febras River Rock Festival” and suggested they were surprised by the “hype caused by the notice” of the name change.
