Sir Michael Gambon, the actor who played Dumbledore in Harry Potter, has died aged 82, reports The keeper. The Irishman has played a role in the saga since the third film, after the death of Richard Harris.
“We are devastated to learn of the passing of Sir Michael Gambon,” the family said in a statement.
In addition to starring in films based on books by JK Rowling, Gambon starred in the films Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Singing Detective.
Gambon was born in Dublin, left school at 15, and had no theater training. His career began to develop with roles in amateur performances. The actor later admitted that he had never seen Shakespeare’s plays before acting in them.
In 2014, after retiring, he stated that in the last years of his career he could not remember his lines. After leaving acting, he lent his deep voice to cinema and documentaries.
