For “many years” Rodrigo Francisco thought about writing a play “about an actor who forgets the lines.” “Calvary” is like this: there is a “great actor”, “old-fashioned”, whom the troupe invites to stage the play “Minetti” by Thomas Bernhard (1931-1989). But his memory has seen better days, and his personality does not deserve high praise. This is the occasion for a play that highlights the fragility of theatrical action – and the miracle that is any premiere – and which ends its run at the Teatro Joaquim Benite after premiering at the Almada Festival in July. Rodrigo Francisco, who in addition to the text also wrote the production, admits that the actors he directed on stage – led by Luis Vicente – “had a lot of fun performing a play that, deep down, tells about their lives.” “And when we presented the play at the festival, the audience had fun too,” admits the director. Also performing on stage will be Carlos Pereira, João Cabral, João Farraia, Pedro Walter, Teresa Monica and Maria Vélez Araujo.
