Traffic was restored around 4:53 pm in Vila Nova de Aña, Viana do Castelo, following the removal of soil that had fallen on National Road (EN) 13 after a landslide, a Sapadores Firefighters source said.
The landslide occurred at around 2:30 pm and blocked traffic on the EN 13 road, next to Monte da Ola Primary and Secondary School, in the parish of Vila Nova de Aña, Viana do Castelo.
The source said the incident resulted in no damage or casualties.
This Monday, Civil Protection raised the alert level from yellow to orange in eight areas due to heavy rain forecasts for the end of the day and warned of the possibility of flooding in urban areas.
“At the ‘briefing’ of the National Operational Focal Point, it was decided to raise the state of emergency to orange for the districts of Braga, Viana do Castelo, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Setúbal and Lisbon,” said the Commander of the National Directorate of Emergency and Civil protection (ANEPC).
In a situation report given in the afternoon at ANEPC National Headquarters in Karnashid, Oeiras, André Fernández explained that weather forecasts indicate “periods of rain, sometimes heavy and prolonged” between late Monday evening and early Tuesday morning.
The critical period will be from 21:00 to 09:00, thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind are possible.
In view of rain forecasts, Civil Protection assumes that there may be floods, floods and landslides and landslides in urban areas. The most vulnerable areas are on the north coast, in the central region and in the Lisbon metropolitan area.
