The newspaper A Bola will fire “about 20 journalists” after completing the information phase and negotiations on collective dismissal, the Union of Journalists (SJ) said on Tuesday.
“To call this a negotiation and information phase is an understatement, since the company has not given any explanation for the need for dismissal,” the statement said, refuting the fact that the Ringier group, the owner of A Bola, was hiring journalists at the same time as dismissing journalists.
According to the union, the process of collective dismissal is “violated from the point of view of legality” and emphasizes that it is not explained “how the choice was made, who stays and who leaves.” SJ also claims that all of the company’s press photographers were fired.
