Altice Portugal is demanding the departure of administrators and senior staff linked to millionaire Armando Pereira, co-founder of Altice and suspected of corruption in Operation Picoas. The company, led by Ana Figueiredo, is preparing to dismiss – by mutual consent – a dozen senior employees, most of whom are directors associated with the purchasing department, Expresso reported.
The probe into a corruption network involving Altice suppliers has gone to the heart of the group and damaged the company’s image. Altice now wants to “avoid further damage to its reputation”, sources said CM. For Altice, according to CM, it does not matter whether the persons already mentioned were recognized as defendants in the process. The case erupted in July and led to the arrest of Armando Pereira and his friend and right-hand man Hernani Vaz Antunes. Several company employees suspended their duties at this time.
Alexandre Fonseca, former president of the executive committee of Altice Portugal and chairman of Altice USA, was the subject of searches on suspicion of improperly obtaining benefits related to alleged bogus services. They will be transferred to Armando Pereira’s companies. Alexander Fonseca has not yet been charged. Andre Figueiredo, his chief of staff, and João Zuquete da Silva, the administrator of the corporate department of the Portuguese unit, have also suspended their duties and will also be blacklisted by the company.
Altiche and Meo have already become assistants in this process, against the wishes of Armando and Hernani Vas Antunes, and should soon have access to the contents of the investigation. Internal work is also being carried out to determine responsibility. At issue, according to prosecutors, is “bias in Altice Group’s hiring decision-making process, as well as harmful practices on the part of the group’s own companies and competitors,” indicating active and passive corruption.
