Russia’s Pacific Fleet and the Myanmar (formerly Burmese) navy begin security exercises off the Burmese coast on Tuesday that will last until Thursday, local media reported.
According to the Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper, the two armies have combined ships and aircraft for the first joint naval exercise in the two countries’ recent history, which tests “the prevention of air, water and underwater threats, as well as maritime security measures.” .
Ahead of the exercise, Russian Navy Commander Nikolai Yevmenov met with junta leader Min Aung Hlaing on Monday aboard a Russian destroyer and briefed him on the ship’s capabilities, local media reported Tuesday.
