PAN proposes to suspend hydrogen projects and provide free travel to all people under 23 years of age.

PAN proposes, as part of the 2024 state budget, to suspend hydrogen projects and extend free travel to all young people under 23, not just those who are studying.

At a press conference in the Assembly of the Republic, PAN spokesperson Ines de Souza Real noted that her party had presented “hundreds” of proposals for amendments to the state budget, which aim to make it “closer to the real estate needs of the country.”

Among these proposals, the only PAN deputy highlighted, in particular, a set of measures to combat corruption, recalling that the party managed to approve a measure in 2021 that guaranteed the disclosure of “all beneficiaries of hydrogen projects,” which, unfortunately, did not happen, given that this would avoid the current political crisis.

“The proposal was not implemented and therefore the PND proposed, within the state budget, to immediately suspend all projects. [de hidrogénio] is ongoing so that a judicial investigation can be carried out,” he said.

Along with this proposal, Ines de Souza Real noted that PAN also wants transparency mechanisms to be created in other projects, “be it lithium, hydrogen, airport,” and that there is a need to increase investment in the provision and training of judicial resources and transparency. Essence.

The goal is “to make Portugal a more positioned country in the transparency “ranking”, with means and funds so that we do not have any funds, not a cent or a euro (…) that would be diverted to the interests of some to the detriment of common good,” he said.

Regarding the fight against climate change, the PAN representative stressed that her party has proposed extending free passes to all young people under 23, not just those who are studying.

“We cannot talk about megaprojects like those that have dominated the agenda in recent days (…) and then, in practice, not invest in real decarbonization in everyday life,” he said, noting that the cost would be much lower than the $2.2 billion for the construction of the Start Campus data center in Sines, which is being investigated by the State Ministry.

Ines de Sousa Real also said the party had also submitted a proposal to ensure that “all courts have victim support units” for domestic violence, which she considers a “scourge” in Portugal.

“These are measures that do not even require very large budgetary allocations: 500 thousand euros would be enough to ensure that the State Ministry has this support capacity to combat one of the phenomena of violence, both against women and children, that causes great concern. every year in our country,” he said.

The only PAN deputy also emphasized that the party wants to suspend the seizure of family homes, as well as reduce VAT on animal feed and medical and veterinary services.

When asked if she had already had a meeting with the government on these proposals, Ines de Souza Real said that there had already been two, but noted that this year the executive branch has not shown “the same openness to dialogue.” despite giving “positive signs” regarding some of PAN’s proposals, such as reducing VAT on animal feed.

When asked whether the PAN would abstain, as is usually the case, if the government does not approve a measure, Ines de Souza Real replied: “No, if these measures are not approved, it is clear that the PAN will not even have the opportunity not to abstain.” .

“What needs to happen is the approval of the set of measures that PAN has presented and which seem reasonable to us,” he said.
