The emergency gynecology and obstetrics service and maternity ward of Braga Hospital will be closed from 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Sunday, the administration announced this Thursday.
A note published on the hospital’s website said that during this period, the maternity ward will remain open for women and mothers in labor who are already admitted there.
The problem, the administration said, is the difficulty of meeting the required work schedules, “despite the efforts of everyone involved.”
Difficulties arise from doctors’ refusal to work beyond the 150 hours of overtime required by law.
He advises that in urgent cases, pregnant women and women in labor in the region should go to hospitals in Guimarães, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Viana do Castelo.

The Board of Directors of Hospital de Braga states that it “constantly strives to provide the necessary conditions to guarantee continued access to emergency gynecology and obstetrics services, minimizing the possible impact on pregnant users in the region.”
