The Justice Department dropped charges against Fernando Medina, Pedro Sisa Viera, Duarte Cordeiro and Graça Fonseca, current or former members of the Socialist government, over alleged improper direct adjustments and possible violations of government procurement rules. An official source in the Prosecutor General’s Office told the newspaper about this. Echo.
The investigation, which began in 2016, was closed after the Lisbon Criminal Department found no evidence in the case.
Finance Minister Fernando Medina was under investigation for actions taken while he was mayor of Lisbon between 2015 and 2021. It was about direct changes at Linklaters, the law firm of former Economy Minister Pedro Sisa Viera.
After four years, Linklaters would have received more than €800,000 for legal services under a contract with the municipality, and since 2013 it will have signed 25 contracts by contracting directly with the Chamber.
The suspect contracts were signed by Medina while he was still a councilor, and by Duarte Cordeiro and Graça Fonseca, also councilors when Medina was already president of the Chamber.
