TAP forecasts growth of 6-7% over the next two years.

TAP estimates growth of 6% to 7% over the next two years, the company’s executive president said this Saturday, taking into account limited fleet growth and the need to consolidate ongoing work.

“We are used to post-Covid growth of 20% and 30% and this is unthinkable in the long term in any industry. What we see now is a flattening of growth, this is natural. Structurally, if we grow 3%, 4%, 5% It is always good and preferable to growing 30% one year and then falling the next year,” said Luis Rodriguez this Saturday in Porto.

The executive president (CEO) of TAP recalled that the company is conditional on growth until the end of 2025 due to the restructuring plan agreed with Brussels, which is that it cannot increase its fleet of aircraft.

“We are talking about imposing a restructuring plan,” he recalled, adding that the company’s growth will be achieved by “exchanging smaller aircraft for larger aircraft, as well as “increasing prices.”

“And that will take us to 6-7% growth over the next two years. I think two years is reasonable,” said Luis Rodrigues during the 48th Congress of the Portuguese Association of Travel Agencies (APAVT) in Porto.

The company is closing the budget for the next year and it is with these percentages for operating results and revenue that it works, an official source confirmed to Luse.

In the first half of the year, TAP achieved 108 million euros in operating profit, an increase of 2,354.5% compared to the same period last year.

“This is completely normal. In fact, at the moment it is not even desirable, because we need to consolidate the structure – the one that we are creating – that will make the company structurally profitable and sustainable forever or for the longest possible period,” he explained. remembering that it is “reasonable” to assume that “there will be “other covids”.”

“I don’t know when, I don’t know how, I don’t know in what form, but it will happen. And if we get intoxicated with significant growth and suddenly experience one of these, things will become much more difficult. to cope. So, at the moment we are looking for this,” concluded Luis Rodriguez.

On August 30, TAP announced that it made a profit of 22.9 million euros in the first half of this year after recording a loss of 202.1 million euros in the same period last year. The airline recorded positive results for the first time in the first half of the year since the publication of its half-year results (2019).”

This net result represents an improvement of €225 million compared to the same half of last year. Moreover, compared to 2019, the period following the Covid-19 pandemic, this figure increased by 134.9 million euros.

This Saturday, when asked whether such first-half results could be attributed to the leadership of former executive president Christina Hourmier-Widener, the current CEO noted that “there are several points of view from which one can look at it.”

“Firstly, the results were achieved primarily thanks to our clients, many of whom are here. [agentes de viagens] and straight ones too. If it weren’t for direct clients and agencies buying tickets, there would be no results for anyone. They also owe a lot to the TAR employees who made it happen. They belong to the shareholder who supported the company. And ultimately, it is the taxpayers who “agreed” to contribute to ensure that TAP continues to exist today and deliver ever better results,” explained the person in charge.

Luis Rodriguez then pointed to another possible approach, which he said could be personalization.

“The way I phrase it internally is very simple: a quarter of these results come from management and strategy through 2014. [gestão Fernando Pinto], bet on Brazil. Without Brazil we wouldn’t be here. A quarter falls on the strategy 2014,2015 to 2017, 2018, betting strategy in North America. [Antonoaldo Neves]. The room should [à estratégia] 2019–2021 [Christine Ourmières-Widener, com cortes de custos e por aí fora e aguentar durante o covid. E um quarto deve-se àquilo que nós fizemos pelo ajuste da estratégia e por aquilo que conseguimos fazer em seis meses alavancando em cima disto tudo”, sustentou.
