Munich Airport resumes operations, two thirds of flights canceled

Munich Airport resumed operations this morning after being forced to cancel all activity on Saturday due to heavy snowfall in southern Germany, but still canceled two-thirds of flights.

“Flights resumed at 6:00 a.m. Air travel restrictions will remain in place. Therefore, we recommend that passengers departing this Sunday check with their airline in advance about the status of their flight before heading to the airport,” the airport said. his website.

About 560 of the 880 flights scheduled for this Sunday at Munich Airport will be cancelled, according to an airport spokesman quoted by regional broadcaster BR and news agency EFE.

Munich Central Station remained closed this morning, although the railways planned to resume intercity and regional services this Sunday morning.

German rail operator Deutsche Bahn (DB) said on Saturday that due to “the onset of winter in southern Germany there will be restrictions on train services on December 2 and 3.”

In a statement, DB advised customers to postpone their travel to a date after Monday if possible, as bookings for trains scheduled for Sunday are already very high.

The remaining public transport, which stopped operating in Munich because snow plows failed to clear the snow, is also gradually resuming service, with subways, buses and trams running again.

Heavy snow also forced the postponement of the Bundesliga game between Bayern Munich and Union Berlin.
