PS leader candidate Pedro Nuno Santos stated this in an interview with Kommersant on Wednesday. CMTVthat there are no debates with opponents, because “the focus is on the direct.”
“We understand that at this almost pre-election stage of the legislative election campaign, this debate was more favorable to the opponents, our focus is a direct campaign, this is an election campaign,” he said.
“We’re on the ground every day, talking to activists and doing interviews, and I think that’s enough to distance ourselves,” he added.
New airport solution
Despite the fact that he is familiar with the report of the independent commission on the selection of a new airport, he emphasizes that “the main thing is to decide.” He states that “in Portugal we too often drag our feet on derivative issues” and that “we cannot continue to delay.”
Regarding the party consensus regarding the decision on the choice of the new Alcochete airport, he explains that “there must be a consensus and that we must talk to several parties”, but it is important to understand that we cannot always postpone decisions.
“The Humberto Delgado Airport is being explored at the same time as the development of the runway in Alcochete, and then gradually Humberto Delgado ceases to exist. At least this is the logic: during the transition phase, two airports can complement each other, but then there will be only one,” says Pedro Nuno Santos.
The candidate also says it is important to “make it clear that even if the airport were not in Alcochete, a third crossing of the Tagus would always have to exist.”
Thus, he advocates progress “as soon as possible” and the start of a competition for the crossing. “We have a three-hour train line between Lisbon and Porto and it is maxed out. There are no more trains. We need to move forward with the 1 hour 15 minute TVG line between Lisbon and Porto and the Porto Vigo line,” he adds.
Careers of teachers and doctors
Pedro Nuno Santos says that the PS speaks “in principle” about teacher careers because other careers “were recognized, even if by points.” He says education is important “because motivated teachers are good for children.”
The same thing happens with doctors, believe me. “It’s important that they feel motivated and there is agreement with doctors because without that the NHS won’t have the capacity.”
Wages and public debt
When asked about rising wages, he explains that in order to have “higher private wages, there must be companies with potential and growth,” adding that “policies are needed that support the internationalization and capitalization of companies. grow and provide higher wages.”
Regarding public debt, Pedro Nuno Santos believes that “reducing the debt is an important task, because the larger it is, the greater the burden,” but specifies that the reduction must be carried out “at a slow pace and using appropriate resources.”
Frame
The PS leader says housing “is a common problem that exists in both small and large cities.” He adds that many measures could be taken, but the main one would be “building a much larger housing stock than we have and restoring public property.”
“Today housing is seen as a financial asset, it is no longer just housing,” he adds.
