JN editors are considering legal action against Global Media

The editors of Jornal de Notícias decided this Thursday at a plenary meeting to take all measures for possible legal action against the Global Media Group (GMG) and to prepare joint military actions with other publications and other divisions of the company.

These two points were approved at the end of the day by the editors of Jornal de Notícias (JN), which at the plenary meeting also decided to proceed with the development of a draft document that will be published shortly, defending the reputational honor of this journal. title.

In a statement sent to Lusa, “the depreciation that Jornal de Notícias is subjected to” is rejected, stating that journalists are not available “to reduce the editorial staff, nor to physically reduce the newspaper, nor to create a direction that aims to achieve these goals or others that undermine JN’s identity.”

The editorial also said that it intends to “take all measures to file possible legal claims against the company” and prepare joint military actions with other GMG publications and other functional divisions of the company.

They also denounce the failure to pay until this Thursday dozens of employees who contribute greatly to JN and its magazines every day, demonstrating solidarity “with any position taken on their part.”

In a document sent to Lusa at the end of the plenary session, which began at 17:00 and lasted about two hours, the journalists express their “gratitude and unequivocal support” to the board of directors of JN, which resigned this Thursday due to “degradation of functional, technological and the institutional conditions for the performance of the functions, given that the strategic discrepancy “with the administration” “given the measures announced and the preparations for the Jornal de Notícias, its journals and supplements” has become all too obvious.

They also express solidarity with the retiring directors of O Jogo newspaper and TSF radio.

GMG management has opened a mutual separation program for workers under the age of 61 on open-ended contracts, with compensation spread over 18 months, according to an internal statement released on December 11.

GMG has already said it will negotiate “emergency” redundancies with 150-200 workers and continue restructuring to avoid the “more than foreseeable collapse of the group,” the company announced on December 6 in an internal statement.

This Thursday, the Union of Journalists already warned that workers with green slips from GMG have not yet received their salaries or an explanation for this delay.
