The General Secretary of the PKP admitted this Wednesday that he will immediately begin negotiations on an agreement with the PS if the Socialists make viable the projects to change labor legislation that will be discussed this afternoon in the Assembly of the Republic.
“I will reach an agreement if the Socialist Party follows our proposals in the Assembly of the Republic. Let’s see what the Socialist Party’s position is on this matter, that’s the big question, the rest is just us walking around here creating scenarios that have no consequences in people’s lives,” Paulo Raimundo told reporters in Carregado.
This Wednesday, the PKP presents in Parliament four projects to change labor legislation, namely in terms of collective agreements, the regulation of shift work and the rewards of those who work shifts, as well as an end to the reductions in overtime work proposed by the PSD/SDS-PP government. that the socialist government did not want to restore.”
“From the statements of Pedro Nuno Santos during the electoral campaign of the Socialist Party, I heard that we must maintain the stability of labor legislation, which means instability in the lives of these people, which is a big problem and therefore a good opportunity to clarify that the paths that each person wants , and the answer determines what happens tomorrow,” he said.
According to the communist leader, “The Socialist Party is just one, and we should not think that it will bring any solution to our lives.”
With no expectations of a policy change with new PS leader Pedro Nuno Santos, Paulo Raimundo asked for the PCP’s voices to be strengthened in the March 10 legislative elections, saying “this is what drives” the country’s decisions, also in overtime aspects.
The General Secretary of the PCP spoke as part of his contacts today with workers outside the Matutano company, in the municipality of Alenquer, Lisbon district.
For PCP, Matutano is a company where shift work should be valued and kept “to the bare minimum.” Raimundo cautioned that there are areas of the company where continuous operation is not justified.
Marcos Rebocho, leader of the Food Workers Union, explained to reporters that with continuous work, 350 workers do not have the opportunity to rest two days a week.
The company’s wage devaluation also resulted in workers receiving salaries close to the minimum wage, he added.
