This Thursday, the PKP asked the ministers of labor and culture if they were aware of the collective dismissal of 12 workers at TVI and what steps the government would take to avoid this.
“The PKP parliamentary group has drawn attention to the intention to carry out a collective dismissal at TVI, which will come into force at the end of January 2024. This dismissal concerns 12 workers,” say communist deputies in a request delivered this Thursday. to parliament.
According to PCP, the situation dates back to 2022, when TVI began a restructuring process.
“Under the pretext of the pandemic and citing loss of income, TVI intended to integrate 74 workers into the ranks of another company of the Medial Capital Group, EMAV, a visual media company,” the party said.
According to the party, workers were offered four options: a tripartite agreement on the temporary transfer of workers between TVI and EMAV; assignment of a contract position between TVI and EMAV, with EMAV remaining the employer of the assigned personnel; a multi-employer agreement in which TVI and EMAV are the employees’ employers, as well as an agreement to terminate the employment contract.
PCP says it has information that after “extreme pressure on workers and even threats of dismissal”, 58 of the 74 workers eventually agreed to the contract’s pressure sharing model, with 44 workers integrated into EMAV since September/October. 2022.
“Unsatisfied, TVI continued to put unacceptable pressure on workers, threatening them that they would lose their jobs. In 2023, TVI informed 16 workers that they would be subject to a collective redundancy process,” the party continues, stating that four of these workers have resigned. up was also integrated into EMAV through a multi-employer agreement, and the remaining 12 were part of the collective redundancy process.
According to PCP, the arguments given by TVI to advance the collective dismissal process, such as the decline in demand for television services, the economic and financial imbalance of the company and technological aspects, “do not take into account the profits generated in 2022, valued at 36.7 million, in addition to more than 85 million euros in profits generated between 2014 and 2018.”
In separate questions addressed to the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, and the Minister of Culture, Pedro Adau e Silva, the PCP begins by asking the government if it is aware of this situation.
“How do you assess the entire ongoing process? What steps will the government take to ensure respect for the labor rights of workers and avoid ongoing layoffs?” deputies also ask.
In November, the collective dismissal of TVI was condemned by the Telecommunications and Audiovisual Workers’ Union (STT), which called it “immoral and unfair.”
An official TVI source contacted by Lusa declined to comment on the matter.
