The National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) this Wednesday issued a warning to the population regarding the risk of flooding and inundation, given the forecast of rain in the next 48 hours.
The warning comes as the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts rain, sometimes heavy, especially in the coastal areas of Minho and Douro, winds gusting to 85 km/h, rough seas and the possibility of snowfall in the highest areas. points of Serra da Estrela.
During this period, floods in urban areas, floods, landslides and landslides, accidents on the coast due to rough seas and groundwater levels or ice accumulation on roads may occur.
Given the forecasts, Civil Defense recommends appropriate behavior and basic preventive measures, “especially in historically more vulnerable areas.”
In particular, it is recommended to unblock rainwater drainage systems, securely secure loose structures, and take “extra caution” when driving near wooded areas, near coastlines and when driving safely.
On the other hand, it is not recommended to engage in sea sports and walks along the coast.
