Chegi President André Ventura this Saturday called on the remaining parties to commit to abolishing taxes on agriculture and blamed the PS and PSD for the failure of the sector in recent years.
On the eve of the official start of the legislative campaign on March 10, Andre Ventura wanted to bring up the issue of agriculture, saying that “it was not discussed in this campaign” or in the debates between party leaders. .
Andre Ventura presented this topic during a street rally in the Praia da Areia Branca area of Lorignan (Lisbon district), saying that “in the West it is very noticeable how in recent years the PS, as well as the PSD, have failed in Portuguese agriculture ” “, a sector he considered a “disaster”.
“We are seeing very serious demonstrations across Europe with farmers cutting off roads and preventing supplies. If we want Portugal to be a country that quietly supports its agriculture, that has no problems with its farmers, we must also do our part and do our part.” “is a commitment to Portuguese agriculture,” he said.
President Chegi pointed to “excessive taxation” in the sector, saying that “there are currently more than 1,200 environmental, agricultural or other types of taxes in agriculture.”
Warning that agriculture was being “choked by taxes”, Andre Ventura said he wanted Portugal to stop “being one of the countries in Europe with the highest taxes on agriculture”.
“It is clear that there are many issues that need to be resolved: the issue of diesel fuel prices, fuel prices, environmentally friendly diesel, but I would say that this is the most pressing,” he said.
When asked why he didn’t decide to visit an agricultural farm to discuss the topic, Andre Ventura replied: “We’re going to pave the street and we’re going to pass by a few people. Some of the people here are farmers. and they have joined us and are the ones who give us evidence of the real problems of the sector.”
During the rally near the beach, Andre Ventura was mostly approached by supporters asking for photos and words of support.
The initiative attracted about a hundred people, including candidates and leaders, some wearing scarves and party flags.
A group of drummers opened the street and announced the street, but there were few people on the street where the delegation walked during the day when rain threatened.
