Angolan President on Friday, meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, called for respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and the creation of a State of Palestine, seeking a permanent end to the two conflicts.
“It is necessary to end the war in Ukraine,” João Lourenço said during a meeting with Xi Jinping at the Grand Palace of the People near Tiananmen Square in central Beijing.
The conflict with Russia “must necessarily end at the negotiating table in order to achieve final peace and guarantee the national sovereignty of Ukraine,” he added.
On his second official visit to China after his election, João Lourenço defended the release of Israeli hostages and an immediate end to the Israeli military offensive, which he called disproportionate against the population of the Gaza Strip.
The governor also called for an end to settlements and a permanent end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the creation of an internationally recognized State of Palestine.
“This is the only final solution that will bring freedom and dignity to the Palestinian people and truly guarantee the security of Israel and the people of this troubled region,” he stressed.
Assuring that Luanda and Beijing “share the same values” on foreign policy issues, including the principles of non-aggression and respect for the sovereignty of states, the Angolan leader pointed to the “urgent need” for “deep reforms” in the Middle East. UN.
“Recent events in the international arena have confirmed the urgent need for deep reforms in the UN system, in financial institutions such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the World Trade Organization, but above all in the Security Council. because over time they have proven to be outdated in the context of today’s world, almost 80 years after the end of World War II,” he said.
The Angolan head of state pointed to the “bad moment” that Africa is going through, as the emergence of terrorism coincides with “anti-constitutional changes” in a number of countries on the continent.
“Wars in Europe and the Middle East have all but forgotten the conflict in Sudan, a country on the brink of an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, with a large toll of lives likely to mount due to hunger and disease, displaced people, refugees and massive destruction of infrastructure,” – he noted.
The Angolan leader said China’s role must always be taken into account in the configuration of the new world order, and pointed to the approval of a joint declaration reflecting the rapprochement between the two countries.
“We left China very pleased with the openness and understanding that we found, which encourages us to be even closer in defending common principles and interests,” Lourenço said.
The Angolan President’s visit program also includes participation this Saturday in a business forum on investment in Angola, as well as working meetings with Chinese businessmen who are already working in the African country or planning to do so in the future.
On the last day of the visit, João Lourenço travels to Shandong Province (east) to contact representatives of the textile, pharmaceutical and agricultural sectors.
