The TVDE National Movement Association supported the drivers’ demonstration on Friday

The Associação Movimento Nacional – TVDE will provide institutional support to the demonstration planned for Friday in several cities throughout the country, organized by partners and drivers of individual passenger transport in non-characteristic vehicles who want better working conditions.

In statements to Lusa this Wednesday, the recently elected president of the Association of the National Movement TVDE, Vitor Soares, explained that the organization “stands in solidarity with workers, partners and drivers, taking into account the discontent in the sector” and gives forms of its “institutional support”.

According to Vitor Soares, we are talking about the cost of trips, which at the moment partners and drivers consider “at the threshold of profitability of the companies,” requiring protesters to pay a minimum of 0.70 cents per kilometer.

Another issue relates to the intention to pay 50% of the kilometer of travel to the customer’s pickup, given that, according to the person in charge, “platforms assign trips 10 kilometers from the pickup” to passengers without one. any compensation to the driver.

Partners and drivers also want to review Law 45/2018, bearing in mind that they have already requested meetings with parties with seats in Parliament to present their proposed changes.

“We now live in a deregulated sector, despite legislation that is exclusively regulated by platforms,” accused the person in charge, believing that the Uber law, as it was known five years ago when it was passed, “lacks new fair regulation.” state.”

According to Vitor Soares, the association supports demonstrations in Lisbon, Coimbra and Faro: a meeting is scheduled for 7 am at Avenida Dom Joao V, in Amoreiras, in Lisbon, next to Uber headquarters, and in Faro, at the airport at 9 am. :00, TVDE is expected to “stop for 24 hours” in the capital.

The National Movement Association (TVDE), which elected new governing bodies in March, currently has about 200 members and is in the process of recruiting new members.

As of the latest data as of March 6, the number of TVDE driving licenses registered in Portugal is 77,441, according to the Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT).

There are 13 TVDE electronic platform operators licensed in Portugal, but only two are active (Bolt and Uber), the others being Its My Ride, Vemja, Tazzi, Chofer, Klibber, Mobiz, Tarine, Ixat, Leb, Plink and Just Easy Mob. !.

A review of the law governing TVDE, scheduled for 2022, has yet to progress, five years after it came into force on November 1, 2018.

In 2023, the PS government led by António Costa delayed a review of the law governing the sector, expecting it to be completed this year, after the European Union’s TVDE directive became known.
