This Wednesday, the Minister of Health presented the CV of António Gandra d’Almeida, who will replace Fernando Araújo as executive director of the SNS, given that he has a vision that will increase the capacity of the public health service.
“António Gandra d’Almeida’s resume speaks for itself. He is a military doctor, a person very accustomed to organization and operations on the ground, he has also worked in emergency medical services,” Ana Paula Martins told reporters on Wednesday morning after visiting the Algheiran-Mem Martins medical center.
The minister also stressed that António Gandra d’Almeida was in international missions in very unfavorable conditions.
“Naturally, he has the ability to gather around him not only a team that will soon be represented from various sources, but he also has a vision for SNS that fulfills what the SNS charter defines for the executive management, which, in essence, must guarantee clarity of language, enhancing the ability of SNS and its health units to work as a network, is one of the greatest strengths of this training program,” he emphasized.
The Ministry of Health announced this Wednesday that it has selected Dr. António Gandra d’Almeida to replace Fernando Araujo as executive director of the SNS, adding that the lieutenant colonel has extensive experience in emergency medical care.
Fernando Araújo is being heard in parliament this Wednesday to explain the reasons for his resignation in April.
The outgoing director of the Executive Directorate of the SNA said this Wednesday that the activity report requested by the trusteeship was completed in half the time to allow the implementation of the measures that he considered necessary.
The Minister of Health also thanked the former executive director of the SNS for his work.
“We are very grateful to Dr. Fernando Araujo, who has decided to leave the executive leadership of SNS. We have always respected this decision. He handed it over yesterday. [terça-feira] We will analyze the report more carefully. We thank you for the work you have done at SNS and that you will continue to do because you are a doctor at SNS,” he said.
Ana Paula Martins emphasized that Fernando Araujo fulfilled his mission and realized that it was all over and gave the government the right to choose.
“We have chosen what, from our point of view, should be the next executive direction. (…). We understand that the team he has selected is a team that has multiple skills, extensive experience, and that we believe can provide a rapid response. very involved in this area, talking to professionals and helping them have the necessary tools to not only provide better response, but also to network,” he noted.
Regarding the visit to the Algeiran-Mem Martins Medical Center, the Minister of Health emphasized that this infrastructure is one of the best in the country.
“We are here today because this government is absolutely critical of general and family medicine (…). There are many things being done here, there are several projects to promote health and prevent diseases. This is the defining line for the future of social networks,” he emphasized.
Ana Paula Martins also guaranteed that the government will “continue to implement the emergency and structural plan, investing heavily in general and family medicine.”
