Grindr, a gay dating app, has blocked features at the Paris Olympic Village. Athletes can still use the app, but it is unavailable. a feature that allows other people to explore users’ locations on a map and see who is online.
Private videos and screenshots of profile photos are also banned in the Olympic Village. “If an athlete is not leaving the country or is coming from a country where it is dangerous or illegal to be LGBTQ+, using Grindr may put them at risk of being outed by curious people who may try to identify and expose them on the app,” he explained on your site.
The same features have been disabled for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. “Our goal is to help athletes communicate without worrying about inadvertently revealing their location or being recognized,” Grindr explained.
The story is about a British journalist who used a location-tracking tool at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to write an article exposing gay athletes.
