A 46-year-old man died on Tuesday after falling off a platform at the Almodóvar carnival in the Beja district.
The accident happened after the carnival procession ended and while elements of the group Motoclube da Vila Alentejana, which included the victim, were still having fun, said the mayor of Almodóvar, contacted by Lusa.
According to a source in the Operational Directorate of the Beja region, the alarm was raised at 17:54.
Firefighters from Almodóvar, the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM) and GNR were mobilized to the scene, with a total of 19 operators and five vehicles, including an ambulance (IVS) and a helicopter.
However, death was pronounced on the spot.
The victim’s body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Beja.
