According to a source from the Sub-Regional Directorate of Emergency and Civil Protection of Beira Baixa, one person died and one was seriously injured in an accident this Monday between a heavy vehicle and a passenger car.
A collision warning on the national road 233 (EN233) near Castelo Branco occurred at 15:01 and affected a passenger car and a heavy vehicle, the same source told Lusa.
According to a source from the GNR territorial command in Castelo Branco, the accident killed one person, a 58-year-old man, and seriously injured a 52-year-old woman, who were in a car.
According to Captain Rui Carvalho, traffic on EN-233 has been stopped and traffic is expected to be restored on this road within two hours.
The reasons that led to the traffic accident are still unknown.
The seriously injured man was taken to the Amato Lusitano (HAL) hospital in Castelo Branco.
There were nine operators and four vehicles from the Castelo Branco Volunteer Firefighters, GNR and the Medical Ambulance and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) from HAL.
