Musk gives in to celebrity protests and returns blue seal

Elon Musk has decided to revisit the decision to revoke the “blue seal” from Twitter for users who refused to pay 7.29 euros per month to receive this award. Faced with protests led by figures such as writer Stephen King, comedian Ricky Gervais or soccer player Sergio Ramos, the social media owner has decided to return “Twitter Blue” to a few users. In addition to King, Gervais and Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Bill Gates and Shakira, among many others, also regained their Blue Seal this weekend (more visibility, tech perks or less publicity). This does not apply to Pope Francis, who, oddly enough, still has a “grey” account.

Another curious fact is that the stamps have been awarded to deceased celebrities, including Michael Jackson, Chadwick Boseman, Kirstie Alley and Kobe Bryant.

On Thursday, the social network underwent a change: accounts lost this distinctive badge received in the past. The Blue Seal has disappeared from countless personalities such as artists, athletes, journalists, teachers or activists. Some of them expressed their surprise, such as Stephen King, who said that the social network should pay him for a “tweet”. Spaniard Sergio Ramos, defender of PSG, said that Musk should care more about “eradicating hatred, promoting respect and improving Twitter” after his family became the target of threats on the social network.

It should be remembered that, according to the multimillionaire, signing the “blue seal” allows you to fight against fake profiles and automatic accounts and diversify income at a time when many brands have abandoned the platform.
