Two people died this morning in Palmeira de Faro, Esposende municipality, as a result of a landslide, a source from Esposende volunteer firefighters told Lusa.
“A landslide on a slope hit a family home and killed two people aged 22,” said the deputy commander of volunteer firefighters in Esposende, Braga district.
The bodies must be saved. According to Julio Melo, operatives on the ground were waiting around 06:00 “for a guarantee of safety conditions for the heavy equipment that will be used to remove the wreckage.”
The landslide, which dragged in “stones of a certain size,” “reached a compartment located at the back of the house,” the same source said.
According to Esposende firefighters, there were six people in the house, two of them (who died) in the annex at the back.
According to the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection website, there are 17 operators and eight vehicles at the site.
According to Esposende firefighters, among the funds on site is a team of INEM psychologists.
