End today’s session. The trial will continue on July 4.
Played Justo’s first interrogation
The first interrogation of Justo on June 24 is reproduced in court. At the time, the defendant said the girl had been at the family’s home “a month ago” and stayed there “4, 5 or 6 days”.
Justo said he went shopping for his granddaughter when he was told that Jessica had fallen.
“We called her mom and she said, ‘Oh, I’ll be there tomorrow.’ The man also said during the first interrogation that Jessica slept with Esmeralda and her daughter and that the girls did not leave the house.
The defendant stated that it was Tita who was feeding Jessica and that Inez “only said good morning, good afternoon, nothing more.”
When asked if he had ever seen his daughter or wife attack Jessica, he replied: “No, nothing, nothing, nothing.”
The witness saw Jessica with injuries, and Inez assured that the girl fell.
Sandra Gomes is heard in court. The woman only knows Ines because she frequented the café where the witness works.
“The girl went to a cafe with her mother. […] the girl always went from one side to the other. He was a very busy child, he had a lot of life,” says the witness.
The woman says that the last time she saw the girl was in a cafe “maybe on Monday” and that Ines said her daughter was going “to summer camp”.
“The girl had a backpack on her back. She was all overjoyed, saying, Sandra, I’m going to summer camp. That morning she went there for breakfast, the girl said goodbye, hugged me and left, ”says the woman.
The witness admits that he even saw Jessica with injuries on the day when the girl appeared with bruises. Sandra asked Ines, who told her that her daughter had fallen.
The witness noted that the minor “was strange, she was sad, hurt.” On the same day, Inez returned to the cafe with the girl and showed more injuries than the child had. Jessica “was bitten on the arm, all black, she pulled up her skirt and she was black.” Inez refused to go to the hospital because the girl would later be taken away for “abuse”.
Sandra Gomes claims that Inez Thomas could not mistreat her daughter because “she wasn’t with a girl in those days”.
“I heard Esmeralda say: Inez pays me either well or badly,” says the witness.
The new witness claims to have known the defendants by sight. “I knew the girl, but I didn’t have much of a connection with her,” the woman said.
“I heard Esmeralda say: Inez pays me either well or badly,” the witness said. Upon hearing this, Tita and Esmeralda are flustered and deny everything. The judge calls for silence.
The woman also says that “she was aggressive when she said it.” However, he claims that he never saw Ines with Tita and Esmeralda, that he even saw the defendants with a girl who was not Jessica.
The witness says he knew Jessica and that the girl “went to the cafe every day.”
Francisco da Silva is the first witness to be heard. The man states that he does not know any of the defendants, but he knew a girl who “went to the cafe every day.”
“She played with a lady, she was very good,” Francisco said.
When asked when he last saw Jessica, the man claims it was the day he left the “cafe at 4:00 pm.” “That day, for the first time, I saw a girl on her mother’s lap,” Francisco da Silva said, adding that “the girl was dressed in her mother’s arms” and that he thought “she was sleeping.”
“I saw the girl, and two or three days later I saw on TV that she had died,” the witness said.
Restart your session.
The meeting was adjourned and will resume at 14:30.
Jessica’s mother cries when she sees photos of the room where her daughter slept
The court is now showing photographs of a court search of the home of Jessica’s mother and stepfather.
There are many photos of the room where the girl slept and the children’s dirty clothes. Ines cries looking at the photos.
There are photographs taken in the house of the Montez family.
At the court session, photos of the Montes family’s house, taken during the inspection by the court of jurisdiction, are shown.
In the pictures you can see the stairs, alcohol, betadine and things on the floor of the living room behind the sofa. There are also photos of the rooms, the balcony and the bathroom, and you can see that this is a house with several conditions.
There are even photographs of blood stains.
The SP also carried out a second inspection of Tita and Justo’s house. The judge asks if the lighter in the photo belongs to Justo, who says he doesn’t know.
Pictures of scissors and pliers hang in the pockets of men’s coats. When asked by the judge whether the coat belonged to him, Justo replied that he had never worn it. “If he is in my house, he is mine,” he said. Man does not know how to explain the origin of objects.
There are also images showing hair all over the house, a frame with spots, and children’s clothing. Blood was also found in two buckets.
The court withdrew the testimony of the son of Tita and Justo
Eduardo Montes, son of Justo and Tita, denies all the facts attributed to him. He said that he had been abroad while the girl was at her parents’ house and that he had seen her two or three months ago.
Eduardo’s children rarely visit their grandparents’ house due to the conditions, and the man said he trusts his father more than his mother and Esmeralda.
As for the drug, the man says he never used it with Alexandrino, Jessica’s father.
Eduardo also said that he knows Ines because he is a friend of his mother and sister.
The judge reads Justo’s statements made in court
The judge reads Justo and Eduarda’s testimony for the other defendants to hear.
Giusto confirmed in court that the girl had spent about five days at the nanny’s house and that she had come there with her mother. The man also said that he was not at home and that he did not see the girl.
The defendant stated that he did not see any injuries on the child, with the exception of a wound in the mouth area received as a result of a fall from a chair. He said that he never heard the girl scream and did not see any aggression towards Jessica.
Jessica’s mother cries before hearing an emergency call in CODU
In court, an emergency call is made to CODU. Ines Thomas cries before listening to the tape, and the judge warns that the girl’s moans can be heard.
“The girl was in the colony, she has problems, she went to a psychologist, she was put in a flea market, and she does not wake up,” Ines is heard saying. During the call, the girl’s mother and stepfather can also be heard arguing.
After a few questions from CODU about the girl’s condition, Ines says that “her heart is beating very fast.” Later, he also says that after all, his daughter “was not in pioneer camps, she was in a nanny, she hit her head today.”
“She’s covered in spots, I don’t know if she hit him,” Jessica’s mother said during the call, where she revealed that she believed her daughter was showing signs of abuse.
Paulo Amancio refuses to appear in court
Jessica’s stepfather said he knew Tita and Esmeralda by sight, accused of the girl’s death. The man, who had been in a relationship with the mother of a minor for nine months, said he would not testify because he had no lawyers and that he was there “for nothing.”
The judge emphasized that Paulo Amancio “is not on trial” and that he can remain silent, as he had a close relationship with the girl’s mother.
Jessica’s maternal grandfather leaves the room in tears.
Rosa Thomas stated upon arrival at the court that she did not know any of the defendants.
The woman was crying obsessively already in the room, where she announced that she would not testify.
Jessica’s stepdad to be heard in court
Jessiva’s stepfather will be heard in court this Thursday. Upon arrival, Paulo Amancio refused to speak to reporters.
In addition to the Stepfather, neighbors and a friend of the girl’s mother will sound.
