More than 30 Portuguese animated films will be shown in Barcelona in January.

The centenary of Portuguese animation will be celebrated in Barcelona from 11 to 13 January 2024 with a film exhibition featuring 35 short films.

Animalusa, a showcase of Portuguese animated films produced by Studio Kimchi, will take place in the Fort Pienz civic center in Barcelona, ​​and the program will also include two “master classes” (lectures).

The first “master class” is led by director Alexandre Siqueira and focuses on the “creative process” of the short film Purpleboy, a North American Annie Award-nominated film of Portuguese, French and Belgian production that explores gender identity based on history Oscar, a transgender boy.

Another Animalusa masterclass is called “Abi Feijo: Four Paths, One Direction” and focuses on the work of the director, educational producer and director of the Casa Museu de Vilar (Lusada) Alvaro Feijo (known as Abi Feijo), who is dedicated to his more than 40-year career animated film.

The 35 short films included in the exhibition program will be shown over three days in five thematic sessions: “Women’s Animation”, “100 Years of Animation”, “Stop-Motion Animation”, “Dictatorship and Revolution” and “Short Films for Little Ones”. those”.

The “female animation” session includes short films “Água Mole” (Laura Goncalves and Alexandra Ramirez), “A Menina Parada” (Joana Toste), “Sonolent” (Marta Monteiro), “Amelia and Duarte” (Alice). Guimaraes and Monica Santos), “Polvo” (Katarina Sobral), “Uncle Thomas, Counting the Days” (Regina Pessoa) and “Última Chamada” (Sara Barbas).

As part of the “100 Years of Animation”, the short films “Ice Merchants” (Joao Gonzalez), “The Tragic Story at the End of Feliz” (Regina Pessoa), “Entre Sombras” (Alice Esa Guimarães and Monica Santos), “Aguro” will be shown.
