Metro do Porto and STCP will increase services on New Year’s Eve: the metro will operate all night, with the exception of the Violeta line, the public transport companies announced.
In the year that Porto’s celebrations return to Avenida dos Aliados, the metro will run all night to “ensure a good farewell to 2023 and a better entrance to 2024”, according to a statement sent to Lusa.
The exception is the Purple Line (E), serving the airport, which ends at 01:00.
The strengthening of Metro do Porto will begin at 20:00 on Sunday, and from 6:00 on New Year’s Day, the company adds, public holidays will come into force.
As for the frequency, on the blue line (A) from 21:00 to 3:00 departures are made every 10 minutes in both directions, and on the red (B) and green (C) also in this time interval transitions are made every 30 minutes .
On the yellow line (D), a trip will be guaranteed every 10 minutes from 20:00 to 22:00 and about seven minutes from 23:00 to 3:00.
The Orange Line (F) operates every 20 minutes from 21:00 to 3:00.
The Sociedade de Transportes Coletivos do Porto (STCP), also in a note sent to the editors, describes that “the usual night service [37 linhas] joins the anticipation of Rede de Madrugada [exceto linha 9M]with supply four times higher than normal and with trips averaging every 15 minutes.”
The company guarantees that higher capacity vehicles will be available on the main axes of the STCP network “to quickly connect to the centers of the six municipalities served by the operator.”
To guarantee a “faster and more direct” connection between the city centers of Porto and Gondomar, line 800 (Bollão-Gondomar) will be reinforced with additional buses and service until late morning, in addition to line 9M (AEP-Gondomar Rotunda, via Sant Joan Hospital ), a significant part of the route runs along Circunvalasan.
Thinking about the public that will want to attend the concerts planned at the Palácio de Cristal Gardens, STCP will redirect line 1M (Av. Aliados-Matosinhos, Praia) to Massarelos via Rua da Restauração to Cordoaria.
On Monday, the company adds, the network will operate as usual on Sundays and holidays.
STCP has also decided to group the finishing stops in the center of Porto from 21:00 Sunday, establishing four points: Cordoaria – Calle Dr. Ferreira da Silva, Bolhão – Calle Bolhão, Mercado do Bolhão – Calle Sa da Bandeira and Batalha – Calle Alexandre Herculano. .
