A 55-year-old man was arrested on Saturday morning on suspicion of assault, resisting and coercing police.
According to PSP in a statement sent to the newsroom, the suspect was seen on the Marquês de Pombal metro platform in Lisbon, very agitated and loudly shouting insults.
Police officers at the scene approached the man for “insulting other subway users.”
As soon as he left the subway station, the man lay down in front of a patrol car assigned to the subway station.
As officers approached, they noticed the suspect writing an insult on the license plate of the patrol car.
“He was immediately ordered, several times, to stop this behavior, he ignored the order and continued his actions. Constantly and without making him wait, the suspect stood up and attacked the police officers with blows to the legs, as a result of which he was placed under arrest,” the PSP said in a statement.
The detainee was notified of his appearance this Monday, at 13:30, at the local court of minor crimes in Lisbon.
