The Conference of Portuguese Bishops (CEP) this Wednesday deplored the legalization of euthanasia, already adopted by the President of the Republic, and expressed hope for its abolition.
“As we have repeatedly confirmed in the course of the legislative process that has ended, with the legalization of euthanasia, the fundamental principle of the inviolability of human life is violated and dangerous doors are opened for the expansion of situations in which euthanasia can be requested,” the Portuguese Catholic episcopate said in a statement.
On Friday, parliament approved a medically assisted death decree vetoed by the President of the Republic with a total of 129 votes in favor, forcing him to make public what happened on Tuesday.
