On Sunday, Ukraine said it was still fighting for control of Bakhmut after Volodymyr Zelensky said the city was “only in our hearts.”
Asked if Ukraine controls Bakhmut after Russia took full control of the city on Saturday, Volodymyr Zelenskiy replied that he “doesn’t think so”, according to Reuters.
A public relations adviser to the Russian president came to clarify that the Ukrainian leader’s response followed a question posed by a journalist who reported that “the Russians said they had taken Bakhmut.”
In a post on his official Facebook account, Sergei Nikiforov guarantees that the answer “I don’t think so” will be to deny the capture of Bakhmut.
After Russia claimed a Ukrainian city on Saturday, marking “the end of the longest and bloodiest battle in the 15-month war,” Zelenskiy called it a “tragedy.”
“There is nothing in this place,” he added.
