Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho announced on Monday that Portugal is ready to train Ukrainian pilots in the use of F-16 fighter jets, and also said that there is no way to send planes at the moment.
“Portugal is open to this possibility. We have very good pilots and instructors and they are ready to work with colleagues from other countries who also have F-16s to train Ukrainian pilots,” João Gomes Cravinho said after the European Union (EU) Foreign Ministers meeting in Brussels.
The dispatch of the F-16s, which the Portuguese Air Force has, is “a non-negotiable matter,” the minister added, explaining that “Portugal does not have an unlimited supply of aircraft.”
