The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) announced on Monday that 32 people have been arrested in recent months for selling tickets to Coldplay concerts on social media “at prices far in excess of their face value.”
The arrests were made as part of a national operation to illegally sell tickets for the band’s concerts in Coimbra, during which 56 tickets were seized.
On Sunday, the Estádio Cidade de Coimbra hosted the last of four Coldplay concerts attended by around 200,000 people.
The ASAE said in a statement that on the days of the event alone, “35 tickets were seized and 18 people were arrested for committing a speculative crime in selling tickets on social media and at prices above their face value.” reaching a speculative net profit of 305 to 325 euros per ticket.”
“All detainees were brought before the judicial authorities, and several measures of temporary suspension of the process were applied, which ranged from four to ten months, and / or the payment of an injunction in the amount of 300 to 600 euros,” he added.
On Thursday, ASAE inspectors intercepted “a man who was in possession of a fake ID and was thus impersonating a member of ‘staff’.”
According to the ASAE, “Several access documents were sold with this false documentation, with three identification cards and four used wristbands seized.”
Because he was illegal in Portugal, “he was handed over to the security forces present at the event and detained for crimes of forgery, usurpation of functions and fraud against the organizing organization, after which he was brought before the judiciary. which decided on the temporary suspension process,” he explained.
On Saturday, he was arrested by the ASAE when, “along with another person, they were selling counterfeit textiles on public roads,” confiscating 169 items and 155 euros from them, he added.
The nationwide operation was conducted by the ASAE’s National Information and Criminal Investigation Unit.
