Ukraine’s UN ambassador Serhiy Kislitsa told Lusa that the Russians only realize the atrocities committed in the neighboring country at the end of the invasion of Ukraine, a “catharsis” similar to the Germans after Nazi rule.
Given the lack of freedom of the press in Russia and the proliferation of Kremlin propaganda in some media outlets, Kislytsya believes it will take time for the Russian population to grasp the seriousness and scale of the attacks on Ukraine, as happened in Nazi Germany.
“I cannot speak on behalf of the Russian population, not least because I have not been to Russia for many years. But I think that there is a very clear parallel between the behavior of the Russian population and the behavior of the German population during the rule,” the ambassador said.
