Two fighters from the Ukrainian Azov Battalion, who defended the city of Mariupol for several months in 2022, have been sentenced by Russian justice to 13 years in prison for alleged attempted murder of a civilian, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the Russian military prosecutor’s office, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk region, annexed by Russia last year, convicted Andriy Pilyavsky and Roman Kharkenko of the military unit of the Azov Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine for “attempted murder by a group of individuals motivated by hatred and mistreatment of civilians” .
The investigation found that on March 5, 2022, Ukrainian troops in Azov monitored the movement of Russian troops in Russian-sieged Mariupol.
