The NATO summit in July in Vilnius will focus “mainly” on concrete support for Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said this Friday.
Answering a question about Ukraine’s possible entry into NATO, Scholz said that “in Vilnius, it will be primarily about organizing concrete support for Ukraine in this situation.”
Speaking at a joint press conference with the heads of government of the three Baltic countries, Scholz added: “The question we must now answer is: ‘How can we improve cooperation in the specific situation of Russia’s attack on Ukraine?’
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, for her part, believed that the accession of Ukraine was necessary to ensure peace.
Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins said he was convinced that “after the war in Ukraine is over, after Ukraine wins this war, Ukraine should become a member of NATO. The reason is simple: this is the only way to ensure that Russia will never start a war again.”
