Cape Verdean MP Manuel Moura, elected by the Movement for Democracy (MpD, in office), was shot dead during a robbery in the city of Praia on Saturday evening and hospitalized, a party source told Lusa.
According to the leader of the MpD parliamentary group Paulo Veigi, MP Manuel Moura was shot in the face during a robbery that took place in the Terra Branca area, in the city of Praia, allegedly from improvised weapons common in this type of crime.
“He is stable and out of danger,” said Paulo Veiga of the situation of MP Manuel Moura, who was taken to the University Hospital of Dr. Agostinho Neto (HUAN) in Praia.
The crime took place on the same night that the MpD concluded the XIII National Convention in Praia, which was attended by about 300 delegates.
Manuel Moura was elected as a member of the 10th Legislative Assembly (from 2021 to 2026) on the lists of deputies from the Electoral District of Santiago Sul and is a member of the Specialized Commission of the National Assembly on External Relations, Cooperation and Communities.
In the current legislature, the National Assembly of Cape Verde consists of 72 deputies, 38 of whom represent the Democratic Union.
