This Monday, the Spanish press is covering the “defeat” of the Socialist Party (PSOE) and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in the municipal and regional elections in Spain on Sunday and how the PP “devastated” the victory “without palliatives”.
“The PP is devastating Madrid and multiplying its territorial power,” reads the headline of a print edition of El Pais this Monday, which writes in an editorial that the People’s Party (right) achieved “success without palliative measures” on Sunday, although now it it remains to be decided whether to form an alliance with the VOX (far right) to govern several autonomous regions and Spanish cities.
In another headline, the same newspaper writes that it was “anti-Sanchism” that led the PSOE to this defeat and hurt several of the party’s regional and local barons.
