This Sunday, Portugal hailed the government of President Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan opposition for the resumption of dialogue in Mexico, insisting that it lead to free and fair elections and the restoration of democratic institutions.
“Portugal congratulates the Venezuelan parties and the Norwegian mediators on the resumption of negotiations in Mexico City,” the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ME) said in a statement.
In a message posted on Instagram by the Portuguese Embassy in Caracas, the MNE also states that it wants “the dialogue participants to take the necessary steps to hold free and fair elections and fully restore democratic institutions.”
