151 migrants, including 35 children, were rescued by the National Republican Guard (GNR) off the coast of Crotone, Italy. The action lasted more than 29 hours and was carried out with the help of the Bojador patrol boat.
The alert was raised at 00:50 this Saturday while on patrol.
A patrol boat was called in to support the recovery effort after Italian authorities warned of the movement of a fishing boat suspected of carrying migrants on board.
The ship, heading for the Italian coast, was detected by the aircraft and related surveillance systems at 13:35.
Since the only patrol boat “Boyador” was on site and given the large number of people on board, instructions were given to remain vigilant and await the arrival of another vessel belonging to Guardia Costiera (Italian authorities) start a rescue operation.
The group landed safely in the port of Crotone around 16:00.
