New Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, who won a disputed election on Feb. 25, was sworn into office this Monday in a ceremony attended by more than a dozen African heads of state, despite complaints from the opposition about alleged irregularities.
“As President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I will perform my duties to the best of my ability and in accordance with the Constitution,” Bola Ahmed Tinubu said during the inauguration ceremony at Eagle Square in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
Tinubu, 71, of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) party, succeeded Muhammadu Buhari, 80, who failed to run in the latest election after two constitutional terms expired.
