Fenprof says education minister should ‘move’ if he doesn’t listen to teachers

The general secretary of the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) said on Tuesday in Faro, at the end of the caravan of teachers on EN2, that if the minister of education does not have the opportunity to listen to the teachers, he will “set himself to walk”.

“We need to be heard, and if this minister is unable to listen to the teachers, he has a good remedy: to take action. Because in fact what the teachers are demanding is fair, it is a question of their temporary service, the possibility of reaching the pinnacle of their career, the possibility of solving other problems that affect the public school,” said Mario Nogueira, who referred to the final decision to strike on nationwide grades and exams on Wednesday.

The union leader spoke to journalists on behalf of the trade union platform that promoted the “For the Teaching Profession and the Public School” caravan, which last week covered 738 kilometers of the National Road (EN) 2 between Chavez and the Algarve capital. require restoration of service time.

By car, motorbike or even bicycle, dozens of teachers took part in the final leg of the route between Sant Bras de Alportel and Faro, where they passed through three high schools before converging at the marker at km 738 of the EN2.

Mario Nogueira, representing the trade union platform, gave an “extremely positive assessment” of the initiative.

“We contacted thousands of teachers along the way and conveyed an important message about work experience: if the road is long and you don’t do everything at once, you do it in stages, if the experience is long, you can also count, and should be counted, albeit in stages,” He.

The general secretary of Fenprof assured that teachers “will not explicitly give up their seniority” and that the six years, six months and 23 days in question “should be returned”.

The next military action is scheduled for June 6, just on the date (06/06/2023), which coincides with the “frozen” service time, with a nationwide strike and two large demonstrations in Lisbon and Porto.

“This coincidence with the length of service that we are being deprived of will no longer be possible. (…) 06/06/2023, for all that it symbolizes, should be the day when all the teachers go on strike and we will all be in Lisbon and Porto for the planned demonstrations,” urged Mario Nogueira during his speech.

The director also said that on Wednesday the teachers’ unions, meeting in Coimbra, will make a final decision on the possibility of a strike on national assessments and examinations, which will be announced at 12.00 at a press conference.

“The Ministry of Education will know what it wants by the end of the school year. One thing is for sure: teachers won’t let them keep stealing their future, stealing their profession, stealing their time at work. fight, and it was another example that teachers are not going to stop fighting,” he concluded.
